The scholarship helped me feel valued as a member of the nursing community. Financially, going to nursing school was a huge burden, but a burden that set me up for a successful life. The scholarship helped me know that other people believed in me and my dreams were worth chasing.
I am a Clinical Coordinator in a medium-sized busy urban Emergency Department. We are a Comprehensive stroke center. I work to help manage patient and staff satisfaction scores, throughout, and departmental issues. I am also the President of the Houston Chapter of the Emergency Nurses Association, Chair of the Texas ENA Nursing Practice Committee, and Chair of the National ENA Emerging Professional Advisory Council. The Emerging Professional Advisory Council was born out of a resolution I wrote for the 2018 General Assembly that passed, entitled "Valuing the Emerging Professional." |
The FNSNA was created in 1969 to honor Frances Tompkins, the Association’s first Executive Director. Organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, the Foundation awards scholarships and other programs for student nurses. Scholarships help pay for tuition, books and academic fees. This funding alleviates the stress and burden of rising tuition and decreases the amount of student loan debt.
Since 1974, the FNSNA has awarded over $20 million dollars in scholarships
to undergraduate student nurses, graduate faculty fellowships and school grants. Contributions to the FNSNA are tax-deductible. The Foundation is organized as a 501 (C) (3) charitable foundation.
As the US approaches a serious shortage of registered nurses, funding is needed now more than ever to help students graduate on time and enter the nursing workforce. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 370,000 new nurses will be needed in the workforce by 2028. This shortage impacts not only impacts the lives of nursing students nationwide, but also impacts the quality of care patients receive in this country. Please help us address the impending nursing shortage by supporting nursing students with scholarship funding to continue their education.
