Johnson & Johnson Andrea E. Higham Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Andrea E. Higham was a passionate, driven advocate for nurses and the nursing profession during her many years at Johnson & Johnson, notably in launching and leading the Johnson & Johnson Campaign for Nursing’s Future from 2002 to 2017.
The focus of the campaign was inspiring more people to join the profession, and it provided millions of dollars in grants, scholarships, education and training, mentoring, platforms and advertising to elevate and support nursing.
A key element of Andrea’s work was establishing a long-term partnership with the Foundation of the National Student Nurses Association, raising over $15 million to support scholarships and grants for students, educators and schools of nursing. She placed high importance on nursing education, and making it accessible.
Through her efforts and determination, countless lives have been changed forever, including the student nurses who received scholarships and earned their degrees, the educators who received grants that enabled them to strengthen nursing education and patients who ultimately benefited from excellence in care.
Andrea was a deeply caring mother, whose two young children meant everything to her, whether she was cheering them on at sports and dance events, supporting their amazing artistic abilities or simply spending family time together. They were her all. Andrea is deeply missed by her family, friends and colleagues, but her legacy within the nursing profession will live on through this endowed scholarship.
We thank those who have joined Johnson & Johnson in contributing to this scholarship, and we look forward to meeting the future scholarship awardees.
