Marilyn Bagwell Leadership Development Grant
Established by Dr. Marilyn Bagwell 

 A grant for official NSNA school chapters (minimum of one (1) year) to foster the development of leadership skills in nursing students.
 A total grant award of up to $2,500 will be given to one official NSNA school chapter that wishes to enhance involvement in NSNA to develop leadership skills among nursing students at the school level.  Funds are only provided for special projects that support
Special initiatives/activities of an official NSNA chapter (minimum of one (1) year) where leadership principles can be applied and learned and that promote the advancement of NSNA resolutions adopted in the House of Delegates within the last ten years.

Mary Ann Tuft Endowed Scholarship 
​Established by 1981-1982 NSNA Board of Directors


​This endowment was established to honor NSNA’s second executive director, Mary Ann Tuft, who served from 1970-1985. 
The fund also includes scholarships in memory of Alice Robinson, Cleo Doster and Jeanette Collins. These influential leaders inspire the growth and leadership development of nursing students to the present day, 
Each year the fund provides five $4,000 scholarships to NSNA members.

NSO/CNA Nurse of Our Future Scholarship
Established by Nurses Service Organization and
Continental Casualty Company

As the official NSNA -endorsed provider of professional liability insurance for nursing students, NSO and CNA have reinvested in the future of the nursing profession. "Nurses Can Do Anything" Scholarship
Established by Dr. Patrick Hickey

​
​In his book, 7 Summits: A Nurses’ Quest To Conquer Mountaineering and Life, Dr. Hickey demonstrates how, through hard work and persistence, anyone can achieve their dreams. Nursing students can find inspiration from Dr. Hickey’s experiences detailed in his book and make their dreams of becoming registered nurses a reality.  Dr. Hickey’s various speaking engagements along with royalties from the sale of his book have contributed to this fund.

Terrance Keenan Scholarship Fund 
Established by Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellows

​During his tenure at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Mr. Keenan vigorously championed the causes of health care at all levels.  He had a keen awareness of the health care issues facing the nation.  He also saw the need for advanced education for nurses to support the growing needs of the profession and health care.  Mr. Keenan’s ideas about nursing were revolutionary and are evident throughout the nursing profession today.  

Upon his death in 2009, the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellows Program established the Terrance Keenan Memorial Scholarship Fund to support scholarships for undergraduate nursing students.

Weingarten Leader of Leaders Award

Established by Michael S. Weingarten, MD, MBA, FACS and
​Carol Toussie Weingarten, PhD, RN, ANEF, President FNSNA Board of Trustees and longtime advisor to Villanova University’s chapter to support the Weingarten Leader of Leaders award. 
​
​
​The inaugural Weingarten Leader of Leaders Award is presented to an outstanding NSNA school chapter faculty advisor who demonstrates distinguished support and service to nursing students. Official NSNA school chapters may nominate their NSNA faculty advisor for this award. ​

American Nurses Association Direct Support Scholarship Fund
Established by the American Nurses Association  

ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the economic and general welfare of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying the Congress and regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.

By establishing this endowment, the ANA is supporting the future of the nursing profession by providing funds for student nurses who will one day join this professional organization as registered nurses.

The Rosa & Lemiel Black Memorial Scholarship Endowment 
Established by Dr. Deborah Lewis
The Rosa & Lemiel Black Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by Deborah Lewis in honor of her grandparents Rosa & Lemiel Black. Her grandparents were farmers in Arkansas who migrated to Chicago, Illinois for a better life for themselves and their children. Having only completed 3rd and 4th grade respectively, they believed that education was necessary and vital to individual success and committed their lives to educating their children and providing a better life for them and future generations to come.

Cheryl K. Schmidt Scholarship Endowment, In Memory of Helen S. Klouzal, RN
Established by Dr. Cheryl K. Schmidt

As a longtime supporter of the NSNA and the FNSNA, Dr. Schmidt honors the memory of her mother, Helen S. Klouzal, RN through this endowment.

​Helen Schnauber Klouzal graduated from the House of Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Watertown, NY. Upon graduation she She spent a year at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in NY, NY, learning how to teach. She then returned to House of Good Samaritan School of Nursing where she became their first clinical nursing faculty. There she taught Cadet Nurses who served during WWII.

Frances Tompkins Scholarship Fund, In Memory of Frances Tompkins
Established by Florence Huey

​From 1968-1969, Florence Huey had the privilege of serving as NSNA President with the assistance of Frances Tompkins, NSNA’s first Executive Director. For seventeen years, Frances Tompkins guided nursing students in making policy that reflected what nursing students felt were important issues in nursing and in healthcare.  

Frances Tompkins’ leadership enabled NSNA to become what it is today, a respected organization that provides the opportunities and skills for student nurses to advance into the profession as strong leaders. Through this endowment Florence Huey honors the groundbreaking efforts of Frances Tompkins and the legacy that she leaves behind for many years to come.

Sigma Theta Tau International Scholarship Endowment
Established by Sigma Theta Tau International

​Sigma Theta Tau International, an international honor society, is a network of nursing leaders who are committed to improving health and health care on a global level.  Through this endowment, the organization will support exceptional student nurses who are acquiring leadership skills while in school and who in the future will advance healthcare throughout the world.

MetroSquared Foundation Scholarship Endowment
Established by MetroSquared Foundation, Inc. 

​Created in memory of Terri Tonsetic, RN, this endowment honors the life and legacy of a wonderful nurse who changed the many lives that she touched.  Her husband, James Sagan tells us that “Terri was a great example of someone who really loved her work, had a strong work ethic and everything she did was a reflection of who she was and where she came from.
Her stamina, strength, great humor, and compassion were always admired by colleagues, friends and family.  She always took pride in coming from a blue collar working family from Pittsburgh.”

 MetroSquared Foundation Scholarship Endowment will fund scholarships for nursing students who meet criteria set forth by Terri’s family.

Williams/Shock Legacy of Leadership Endowment
Established by Dr. Kenya Williams and Jenna Shock

​Involvement in NSNA at the national level provides many unique opportunities for leadership skills to flourish. Two past NSNA Presidents, Dr. Kenya Williams (2009-10) and Jenna Shock (2008-09) believe that nursing students should take full advantage of these leadership opportunities provided at the national, state, and local level to develop the necessary skills that they will need as future members of the nursing profession.
