Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association Awards Over $307,000 in Scholarships (4/27/23) The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association (FNSNA) FNSNA is delighted to continue the collaboration with Johnson & Johnson in support of Our Race to Health Equity Diversity Nursing Scholarships and BAND-AID® BRAND Champions for Health Equity Scholarships. Our Race to Health Equity Diversity Nursing Scholarships supports 84 nursing students from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds. Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association Awards over $12,000 in Scholarships (4/27/23) The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association (FNSNA) awarded 2 scholarships for the 2023-24 academic year in memory of Andrea E. Higham, a long-time employee of Johnson & Johnson and fierce nurse advocate who led the Johnson & Johnson Campaign for Nursing’s Future. The Scholarship Selection Committee, composed of faculty and students, met in February 2023 to review scholarship applications submitted by thousands of applicants. Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association Awards Over $12,800 in Promise of Nursing Regional Scholarships to Nursing Students (4/27/23) The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association (FNSNA) awarded 4 Promise of Nursing (PON) scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year. Thirty-three fundraising events, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson’s Campaign for Nursing’s Future were held from 2002 until 2017. Funds were contributed by hospitals, healthcare agencies, nursing schools and by Johnson & Johnson to support gala nurse recognition dinners. Scholarships for undergraduate nursing students; fellowships for graduate students studying to become nurse educators; and grants distributed to nursing schools are administered by the Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association. Undergraduate scholars were chosen from the Promise of Nursing region of Tennessee. Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association Awards Over $320,000 in Scholarships (4/27/23) The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association (FNSNA) awarded 124 scholarships for the 2023-24 academic year. The Scholarship Selection Committee, composed of faculty and students, met in February 2023 to review scholarship applications submitted by thousands of applicants. Trustees Elected to the FNSNA Board of Trustees (10/27/2022)
The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association, Inc. (FNSNA) is pleased to announce the re-election of Pamela Thompson, MS, RN, FAAN to serve as Treasurer to the Board of Trustees. Additionally, Shirley Quarles, EdD, RN, FAAN (COL, USAR, RET) has been elected to serve on the Board of Trustees and transition to her new role as Secretary for a three-year term. Dr. Larry Z. The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association, Inc. (FNSNA) is pleased to announce the election of Larry Slater, PhD, RN-BC, CNE, FAAN to serve as President of the Board of Trustees. Although not his first career, Dr. Slater discovered his passion for the nursing profession and nursing education as an undergraduate student at the University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB). It was there that he became a member of the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) and began to leave his mark on the nursing profession. After earning his baccalaureate degree in nursing in 2008, Dr. Slater continued his education at UAB School of Nursing, earning a PhD in 2011 and most recently (2022) earning a Master’s degree in accounting. While earning his doctoral degree, he also earned a Certificate of Teaching in Nursing. Today, Dr. Slater continues his career educating future nurses as the Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Clinical Professor at Lowenburg College of Nursing, University of Memphis, Memphis, TN. Major General (Retired) George A. Alexander, MD, Appointed to the FNSNA Board of Trustees (12/20/2021)
The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association, Inc. (FNSNA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Major General (Retired) George A. Alexander, MD, to the FNSNA Board of Trustees. He is the first medical doctor to be appointed to serve on the Board of Trustees. “Major General Alexander brings a unique background, a vast network beyond nursing, and extraordinary experience. The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association, Inc (FNSNA) held its first-ever Scrubs and Sneakers Virtual Fitness Challenge. For the past nine weeks nursing students, faculty, NSNA/FNSNA staff and other individuals participated in the challenge to continue to celebrate the Year of the Nurse! The challenge also promoted health and wellness within the nursing community and helped to raise funds to support the FNSNA undergraduate scholarship program. BAND-AID® BRAND Champions for Health Equity Scholarships provided emergency funding for Black nursing students with the graduation date of spring 2021 that demonstrated financial circumstances preventing them from graduating on time. The Promise of Nursing regional fundraising events, sponsored by the Johnson & Johnson Campaign for Nursing, raised over $15 million since 2002 for undergraduate student nursing scholarships, faculty fellowships, and nursing school grants. Robert Victor Piemonte, EdD, RN, CAE, FAAN, a highly esteemed professional leader and former Executive Director of the National Student Nurses' Association, succumbed to the corona virus on April 21, 2020. Dr. Piemonte, born in 1934, graduated from Pilgrim State Hospital School of Nursing and earned the Bachelor of Science Degree at Long Island University and Master of Arts, Master of Education and Doctorate of Education degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University.
